Question Passenger Brake Light Out on XJ8

Passg side brake light is out, thought it was the bulb but switch with the Driver side and the same bulb works on driver side. Checked fuse and it was good, tried different fuse anyway still want work? Any suggestions, Trying to figure out what the problem is?

Luggage compartment fuse box, to the rear of the battery, under the electrical carrier lid.

Layout as diagram:
R1 Fuel pump s/c only.
R2 Heated rear window.
R3 Tail and number plate lamps.
R4 Fuel pump.
R5 Stop lamps.
R6 Accessory socket (where fitted).
R7 Auxiliary +.

How do you count the relays, it looks like a T laying down with top of the T to the left but the XJ Handbook 4-22 just says
R1
R1 R1 R1 R1 R1
R1

So how do you know which is R5? Besides like I say the driver rear stop lamp works? Suggestions?

If I count straight down on the top of the T R3 is missing and come back to the middle of the T R6 is missing? In other words

R1(R1)
R1(R2) R1(R4) R1(R5) R1(R6) R1(R7)
R1(R3)

Is this how they are counted?

Unhappy

Could somebody give some advice on this because I need to drive this car at night and hate to get a ticket for a brake light out? Or after troubleshooting what I could above do I need to take it to a shop? (maybe something wrong with the wiring)

The brake light is controlled by a slm module located in the trunk. They are know for having an issues with chips burning out (specifically the right brake light chip). Also, do not connect a wire from the left brake light. This will burn out the chip for the left in a month or so.

You should do a search on the forum for threads relating to this. There has been quite a bit of discussion on the process for repair.
