Default Performance Restricted - XJ8 2002 Vanden Plas. 4.0 V8

Hello Everyone,

I wanted some advise on what to do with my Jag. Being not so smart i decided to straight pipe my car and added after market back pressure exhaust tips. Due to this the car now randomly keeps showing a "restricted performance" sign on the dash. This does cut the power out/reduces performance alot and now the car sometimes stalls this has been happening for a few weeks and the sign sometimes come on and goes off. Also I do have an after market air intake system.

- I would appreciate some help/knowledge on this subject on how to fix this and yet keep the sound and performance.

Best,
Hammad Askari

The first thing to do is try to find someone that can read any engine codes, and see what they will lead you to. A lot of times, something will be there and point you in the right direction. Hard to say for sure what could be causing it without any codes, as many things can trip that mode.

I was assuming that the straight piping had caused the error since it wasn't there before. In other words is straight piping possibly not the issue ?

What do you mean by straight pipes? Did you remove the cats? Without codes it's just guessing.

If that changed the back pressure and/or the exhaust pulses, could be the cause.
