I've been mulling over an idea of installing picnic tables from a VDP into my XJR. There seems to be a good supply on ebay or local recycling yards of VDP seatback assemblies with tables. Cost is not prohibitive. A very nice set can be had for under $500.

Concerns:
- fit and finish
- connection of the seat positioning switch on the passanger seatback
- color match (reservations from SteveB)
- would a sport sedan look good with picnic tables (overkill perhaps)?

Thoughts, comments, recommendations, pictures of install, past experiences are all welcome.

 

I'll sell you my complete seats for $200.- (two front ones)
They are NED (Ivory), no rips, tears, just the driver's bolster is scuffed. They are complete with tracks, motors, modules, switches, and.....picnic tables (or as I call them "Grey Poupon" tables).

 

thanks, danielsand. the xjr seats are of different design from any other X308 models. i would like to retain the bolster support. i'd rather get the charcoal color seatbacks with the tables. excellent deal though. i hope someone could use these in their XJ8/XJ8L.

 

That's the colour I need - warm charcoal is a rare one in the UK for Daimler Super 8's, all the ones I've seen are ivory...

Anyway, the switch pack for the passenger adjust plugs straight in, I've added that function.

They will fit the same as the originals. I hope you meant me by the way, who's SteveB?!

 

I have been wanting to do this to my black XJR as well. The one thing that I had noticed that the seat backs on the XJR are shorter then on the VDP. Let me know how this goes for you.

 

The leather is covered by the taller back, that's all...if you've ever messed about with seats and handled the replacement picnic equipped backs like I've done, you'll already know it'll work. Jaguar made things (with the help of Ford) to be modular and adaptable.

 

My thinking on this one was for you to use the seat backs with tables (I am pretty sure seatbacks ARE interchangeable), have the seatbacks dyed to match your interior, and get extras FREE (which can also be resold). I've seen motors, switches, modules etc. on Ebay for more than I'm asking for the complete seats. I just don't want to deal with taking it apart, boxing, shipping, etc.

I just currently purchased my tables on ebay today! Ill upload pictures of it as soon as I install them. Personally I love the look !! Ill be adding them to my XJR!

 

I was sitting in a SWB x300 Vanden Plas last week, and the tables made me not able to sit comfortable behind myself (and I am only 1.78m), the tables obstructed my knees.
They are very nice, but I am not sure I wanted them in a SWB.

 

Or you could buy a whole vendan plas for 500 of course non running
