"Please forgive me, for I have sinned!"
I can barely describe how I feel. It's a mixture of guilt, sorrow, exhilaration, anticipation, and a rush before the action.
Since the Range Rover joined the family, I was dropping subtle hints, how this family of two owns SIX cars, and pays for full coverage for all. After few months (a little over three to be exact), my wife announced that we should sell some older cars, because we have "too many". She REALLY likes driving the RR. So that was easy. She gets RR for her DD, and BOTH Jags will be sold, but only if we get the "top dollar" for them,......no negotiations.
Well, poor Garfield was sold on Saturday, and today, I sold her Tabby (no negotiating, and I didn't have to, Garfield was 10/10, and Tabby was 9/10 both inside and out)! That's where the "guilt" comes from (maneuvering my wife into thinking that this was her idea). "Sorrow" comes from me being attached to these cars like they are pets,........and now let me explain "exhilaration, anticipation, and rush".
I see the XJR in my not so distant future!!!
Now I'm on the hunt, and will be sniffing everywhere, like a full blooded bloodhound!
The target: 2003 (and nothing else!), silver, with black interior, preferably one owner car, or the second owner (hopefully enthusiast from this, or similar forums!), "low mileage" (definitely below 100K!). Price? Up to 15K for the one that meets all the criteria above, and down from there if I need to adjust my expectations.
The PERFECT trophy will have new rubber, all maintenance records, Brembos, and Asteroid, undamaged wheels, with no curb rash. It will also have to be "bone stock" (no "upgraded pulleys", "supercharger tweaks", etc.).
So, my dear friends,.....if you know of such a beast, drop me a note. The beast also has to be within driving distance, and "home grown" (spent it's whole life in AZ, NV, or CA - no cars from the snow!). I can wait. My DD is S430 now, and with AMG factory package, doesn't look that bad. Cash is burning the hole in my pocket! And what will wife say when the "new" Jag appears? Oh well,......got three motorcycles in the garage, it will be the time to sell couple of those! LOL

Gave you two thumbs up my friend. trying to contact the guy right now. My wife is going to have a FIT, if I buy another one the same day! What a fun!
Dropped him an email. Wondering if he is the original owner, and asking about maintenance records. Crossing the fingers as we speak.

I started reading as if you were leaving the Jaguar family. Envious that you are after a car that eludes me.
Our small car market means these are tightly held and rarely seen for sale and if one was found I would need another 10K minimum.
Nice of dsnyder to find a nice example....Best of Luck.

Here's one in the SF Bay/San Jose area. Not exactly to your spec, but the price and mileage ($9995 and 47500 respectively) aren't too bad!
2003 Jaguar XJR Supercharged Luxury Sedan
There's another one, also on sfbay.craigslist.org but it's got 150K on the clock. The R's are very cool cars. Message Waterdragon on the forum for a biased opinion.

A sad sad day Danielsand, but life goes on I guess.
Hope you get back into the fold real soon........no doubt you'll still be around?
Good luck with the hunt
Best
Jim

Thanks Jim, of course I'll be around. I've acumulated considerable experience with X308, and I'm more than willing to share.

Still waiting for the response on the one DSnyder suggested (MUCH closer!). We'll see. Like I said,....not in ANY hurry. The hunt IS the best part of all this!

You will have a hard time finding an XJR with the combination of Asteroid and Brembo.
The Brembo are too big for the Asteroids and to make them fit require some spacers.
R1 cars came with Brembo and Milan.
Why only 03 and not 01 and 02?
The only potential issues on those years are the secondary tensioners and that is pretty cheap ( Ford parts) and easy to do.
01 do not have CATS. 02 and 03 does.

I think (and that's just my opinion based on research, and owning two X308s,.....1998, and 2003). As some of you know, I saved the 98 from the certain death with an alan wrench, and a torpedo level (replacing tensioners AFTER the chain failure). I also opened 03. It needed the valve gaskets (not REALLY, it was "sweating" a little, but no oil in the wells yet).
Long story short,.......03 is VASTLY different. Better made, beefier, ....call it what you want, but I think that 03 is the one to have. Oh one more thing,......the age of the driver (or better said,.....eyesight of the driver!). The numbers on the speedometer are MUCH smaller on 98, and hard to see (for me). It's not an "issue" for anyone that drives this one car all the time (you brain sorta memorizes the numbers, without really reading them). But when you drive six cars, and three bikes (flipping them almost daily), your brain stops recognizing the numbers, and you actually have to "read" what speed is showing on the instrument. Since different vehicle's instruments are calibrated (and installed) differently, the position of the hand on the instrument, does not provide the info at glance. "Oh,....this is 90!? Crap,...it's only 80 on the other one." Something like that. (and here in SoCal, 80 is no problem, 90 WILL give you a nice ticket, and by the time the doufous is done preaching, and writinng, and you look at your watch, it will seem like you were driving from "A" to "B" in a hurry, at the average speed of 25MPH). So don't do 90 in SoCal, if you in a hurry (and for pleasure I do 150 on my BMW, and I don't care if they pull me over, because I'm in no hurry).
Sorry about the long explanation. Anyway,......03 speedo is much easier to read. I am not sure which year that changed, but when you combine other factors, I decided to go 03.
Would I pass on 01 with low miles being "given" away (cheap)? Hell no!
Now get this! I contacted the seller, and after two days, he responded, saying that he made a "mistake" in listing. The car is actually 2000, and NOT 2003!! How the hell can you make that kind of a mistake!? He also said that he "adjusted the price accordingly", but the add still stands as "2003 XJR for $12500". I smell a SCAM here.
Even if it's not a scam, I'll stay away from the seller that's driving a car that he doesn't even know what year it is.
Ha ha I definitely smell a sewer rat, if you look at the picture on the listing you can see in the back bumper it has the reverse parking sensors and those came out for model year 2001 and newer, either that or the back bumper was replaced with a later unit that had the sensors so that's evidence of collision repair, JJ

Actually the Asteroids started in 2000, as that's what I have.
Sometimes there can be a difference between the 'model year' and the actual year of registration. The only thing you can really trust is the VIN number
