Default Power seat problem. HELP!

Hi all,

I have a problem with my drivers seat and could not figure it out. The seat adjusts fine with every position but does not go down or up with the front adjustment. You can hear the sound when you try to adjust it but it won't move up or down. The back adjustment works fine and the back support and neck support works fine. Because the wife adjusted it previous to her like, I cannot drive comfortably. I can't get it to my normal position. Any help with this? I have a 1998 XJR. Thanks much in advance.

The motors that control seating position use a cable with a square end wire cable that locks into the adjusters, the adjuster recess can 'round out' and limit travel, I suspect this is what's causing limited travel. The only answer is to replace the seat or the adjuster mech, which is a big job, taking the seat to bits and building back up isn't for the beginner if you want it to work correctly.

Thanks Sean B for the help. I found out this morning that it is doing this on both driver and passenger seats as I let the wife drive because I can't sit and drive comfortably. Could it be something else because of this. Just want to know if it is something simpler before I get into the big job. Thanks much

my 98 vdp only adjust the rear of the seat base not the front. This is the case on both sides. Yours works like mine.

Have you tried working on it or have you an idea of what the cause may be. If so, would you please be so kind and give some guidance. I will try to work on it in the next few weeks as soon as I take my vacation days. I can let you know too if I get it fixed before you do. Or if you get it fixed first, if you would please update me. Thanks in advance

I still have not taken the seat out to inspect things yet. I will let you know what I find out when I get to it.
