Power steering noise.. But opposite of normal??
I'd expect noise at say idle and turning the wheel but I discovered that if I'm stationary and rev to about 2500 and turn the wheel I get a pretty good whine.. Driving seems fine..I might hear the noise on first start up driving following the first 2500 rev for a second or two but it's quite after that... I'm wondering if this is what the tsb is referring to as power steering noise for the x350 generation and which they have an addictive for.. Any ideas is this common amongst our cars?
Your quite busy on site here aren't you....lol....for your issue, have you flushed the system and put in new fluid?
Also, if you put your vehicle and any other info pertaining to it in your signature, it would help everyone when you post about that vehicle and prevent you from having to say it each time.

I have exchanged the fluid using a turkey baster.. Yeah I've been busy just going over little quirks..I cleaned out my part load breather last night it was completely closed off.. Man what a difference that made.. Not particularly concerned about the noise at this point as everything behaves... I'll add my info to my sig...01 xj8
Check your drive belt, if it is slipping you are going to get some noise and slow power steering. Lucas makes an additive for power steering units that is magic for renewing seals in the pump and rack.
A while back, someone had an issue with a loose steering pump causing noise.

Drive belt is newish...I can easily pull it up and down with engine off but there's no wobbles with it running.
.. This sound is like it's low on fluid.. It's not.. Only hear it in park revved up turning wheel

Are your pulleys good? bad bearings could cause noise, esp in the load condition you're noting. Take the belt off and spin all the pulleys by hand, spin both idlers and all the accessories. Everything should spin freely and smoothly. Any notchiness or resistance could cause noise when in use. If you have the plastic idler/tensioner pulleys, go ahead and just replace those with metal since they're probably the ones that came with the car.
Um short version.. Low on fluid stupid mistake checking it with bad reservoir bushings and parked at an angle

We have all done it. Sold and 8 325is; told the buyer there might be a problem with the steering rack. He takes it to the dealer who fills the reservoir. Lost $500 by undervalueing the car.
For anyone that is following this..I have discovered that someone has replaced the suction hose going from the reservoir to the pump with an in correct and soft hose.. My hope is that this hose is either sucking in air or collapsing under suction..I have ordered the correct hose which will hopefully be here later this week and hopefully fix my problem... I'll post updates
I'm glad you've tracked down the problem. Just to resolve one unanswered question from your initial post, the Jaguar additive for the X350 resolves a slight "squeak" that sounds as though it is emanating from the steering wheel. It's not a typical low-fluid power steering "groan." The additive worked well on our '04 X350, but I don't know if it would have any positive effect on an X308.
The Lucas Power Steering Stop Leak additive that Jim mentioned is a great product in older P/S systems.
Cheers,
Don
