Default Problem with idle at 3000 rpm while in park

2000 VDP SC with 101,000 miles has a problem idling above 3,000 rpms while in park - as soon as 3000 rpms is reached idle runs rough and drops off.

Runs okay above 3,000 rpms while in drive.

I am not receiving a fault.

Changed plugs & O2 sensors, all 8 coil packs.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Rev-limiter, I suspect. Many cars have 'em...to prevent over-revving with no load

Cheers

Yip, as Doug said it's rev-limited in park and neutral I believe.
Don't think of it as a bad "i can't rev the crap out of my car in neutral" thing... think of it as a primative launch control

FYI I claim no responsibility for destroyed gearboxes and diffs

All jaguar supercharged engines do that, your engine might be doing 3000rpm but that supercharger is going a lot faster, it is there to stop you from blowing it up, N/A engines don't do this.....

Jim,
My 2001 VDP SC does exactly the same thing and always has. Therefore, it must be a feature. Revs greater than 3K are best experienced with the S button pressed and a heavy right foot.

With the gearshift in "drive" and "sport mode" on, lol!
