Default Programming fob

Ok...back to working with my fob. I've checked the code on back of fob sent, seems to be right (1998 XJ8, fob: LJA2610AA). Fresh batteries, had a local auto parts confirm fob is sending a signal. I can get the Jag into "learn" mode, light near shifter comes on, beep sounds...but when I press button on fob, absolutely nothing happens. I have several copies of the programming needed (pull turn signal, turn key, pull signal 4x, light shows, then beep, etc).

So...where do I turn next? Anybody work through this before? There has to be something I'm missing. thanks...Bob

hmm those steps is exactly what I did two days ago to program my fob. took all but 45-60 secs if even that.

Since I had one fob I had to press the unlock button (or lock) button a total of 5 times.

Apparently in program mode, you can program up to five fobs.

After that I just too the key out and started testing. It worked.

I havea 2000 VDP and my remote came from a 1998 XJR, which is the same as the code you have. I read the code off the one for a 2000 xj8, a 1999 XK8, and 1999 XKR and they all was the same LJA2610AA, including my one from the 1998 XJR. Apprently all those years (1998-2000 have same code for the fob. Yours should work. Hope someone here helps you out.

I did this a week ago, I found that you have to press every button on the fob and get a confirmation beep back. are you pressing just one button on the fob or are you trying all the buttons?

You may want to open the remote like when changing batteries. Remove the rubber skin from the front side of the remote and clean the back side of the skin, it has a surface at the center of each button. Then carefully clean the pc board contacts were the buttons from the skin touch. There is residue that builds up and they just need cleaning. Had the same problem and cleaning fixed the remote and it works fine now.
Good Luck

Default Thanks...still working at it

I really appreciate the comments & help. I should have given a little more information. I have opened the fob & cleaned the contacts! I pressed every button possible...with no response. However, I will bring the fob in again, clean it again & see what happens.

Ok...I just did that! Nothing...so what else can I try, or what do I do now?
