Default Programming Keys

Finally getting around to have the local Independent change out the rear shock absorbers that I bought back in May. Decided I was too old to try and do this either of the three ways (JTIS, dropping the rear, Bob's way). While the cat is in the shop, decided to let Abacus Racing program the new valet key that the local dealer was finally able to locate (bought in June, but they delivered the wrong key and had to reorder) since they were a fraction of the cost the local dealer wanted.

Service manager tells me I have to bring in both Masters and Fobs as well. I pull the second Master (I think I used it back in June) to bring along. I decide to use it this morning. Both FOB and Key unlock everything, key in ignition sets of all the right startup tests, moves the steering wheel down to memory spot, but won't let the car start. DEAD. Scared I had lost the battery, I go in a get the Master I had been using the last many months. Car starts, runs perfectly.

First time I have run across a case where the second key needs to be used to save its programming. Is this what happened? Is this unique? My other Jags (and each of the LRs) had the second Master sit for months and continued to work.

What do you think?
