Proper location to install baby car seat in 2002 vdp?
Is the LATCH system used in my 02 VDP? Can't seem to find the latches? was really easy on my civic and sequoia, but not the jag. thanks
I don't know what the "latch system" is but the metal hooks to supposedly hook the top of childseats into are located behind the rear seat headrests under small plastic covers. there is also one in the middle if I recall.
Here are photos, illustrations and instruction on Child Restraint Anchorage for XJ 2001 to 2003 XJ model series:

Well I have good news that I found a gracobaby snugride install you tube video:
and I found out that you should not use Top Tether Anchor for a rear facing car seat (per this online article on the car saftey.org website):
http://www.car-safety.org/latch.html
It has a photo of a front facing car seat with the latched Tethered belt attached to the Top Tether Anchor on the rear parcel shelf.
Looks like you will have to use the rear seat belt in your XJ8 for your rear facing car seat instead of the tethered brackets located on the rear parcel shelf as shown in you tube video.

Thank you Jim. Ended up going that way. With the belt method the base is a little looser than the latch system in my other cars, but I will give it a try as it seems to get tighter when the car is started. Plus, I always feel safer in my steel tank of a Jag
The LATCH system was supposed to be a US requirement for all vehicles sold in the US with a date of manufacture after September 2002. I'm going to guess your 2002 VDP was manufactured before September 2002 and did not include the LATCH system. I know my '98 certainly doesn't have it. At least it has locking seatbelt ratchets...
