Hi guys, I used to have a 03 XJR with the Alpine system. Now I have a 00 XJ8 base model. In the XJR the subwoofer was dry rotted so I kept it turned off but even without it the sound was much better than my XJ8. This car has a trunk mounted cd changer and the head unit has the navigation button so I’m assuming it is the later version of the radio. My question is are these cars prewired for the amp? I was thinking maybe I could just plug in an amp and put better quality speakers in the doors to improve the sound. The car is in very nice condition for the age with pretty low miles at 55k and I would like to keep the car as stock as possible but the stereo sounds pretty crappy. Thanks for any input!

 

Standard ice car does not have pre wired amp wires. Standard speaker system is no more than adequate. Replace door speaker is the way to go.

 

Thank you. After doing a little more searching on here I started to realize it probably wouldn’t be that simple to hook up the amp.

 

Just repair the rear deck mounted subwoofer.

Lots of speaker repair companies sell the foam surround.
