Default Question for those who have had Cylinder Wash

The one time I thought I had cylinder wash on one of my high mileage X-308s, it turned out to be water in the gas. However, I am wondering if the problem begins appearing regularly, or is it an isolated event. So, if you have one, how long before another event occurred?
My experience with two XJR Nikasil car, each with 200,000 miles is that I have never had a problem, in spite of regularly running for short durations, moving them in the driveway. I use Synthetic oil, and change it at 10,000 miles or so. I have never put Restore or any other snake oil in with the oil. I fully well know saying this will most certainly cause the Demons of Coventry to besiege me soon, and I will have a wash in the next few days!

Ross,

I must say you have a good car. You obviously take care of it and do all the right things and it shows. Kudos to you! With hops you never experience the dreaded cylinder washing. But if you do you will know what to do.

If you've always lived in Atlanta, your cars likely do not get the high level of fuel enrichment on cold start as a northern car gets.

Maybe it's a regional thing?

My post is certainly not to brag about not having the experience nor to question the validity of the problem, but rather to try and understand if wash is possibly just an occaisonal transient condition or whether it might be a sign that an egine is failing.

Mine has only happened twice, once after letting go of the key too early, and once after moving it a short distance. On both occasions it had been sitting all night.

Certainly I don't feel this is an indication of a worsening condition.

Best estimate is that it had 215000 km the first time, and now it has 222,000 km. 7 months between events.
Actually the odometer rolled over all "2"s last week, fun to watch.
