R1 Package Question

R1 Package Question
Hi All.
I've found an R1 that looks great.
My question is this: Does anyone have any experience with both the R1 and the "standard" XJR?
How much better is the braking? Do the brake components wear any faster or slower?
I'm comparing a few cars and trying to write out Pros and Cons.
Thanks!

The Brembo solution gives the car "Good" brakes over the standard Ate system which is "adequate", but come with a couple of warnings, never hard brake then keep pedal pressure in one spot (traffic lights for example) as this leads to warped discs from a pad interface hotspot. Always fit Brembo/OE pads and discs, maybe slightly more expensive but 100% better than pattern parts. They can squeal at low speed.
As A2B has said, resale they do command a premium, the R1 package was a rather expensive upgrade over standard that included BBS wheels, Brembo brake system with Goodridge braided hoses and Sport/Super sport suspension., rare compared to standard cars, you had to specify it on your order, the car then went through SVO.

I've had both a 2003 R1 and a 98 XJR. The R1 had more bite at high speed and would obviously slow the car down a bit quicker, but it was nothing like a modern car with Brembos. I found the pedal feel in the x308 to be pretty poor in general, this was not much improved with the R1 even with the stainless hoses. I think that's a Jag thing, even my x356 has poor pedal feel when compared to any of the other vehicles.
As far as looking at cars, if you come across an R1 in good condition get it. I'd be more pleased that is was an 03 with all of the timing updates, but the R1 package is a nice bonus. Inspect the wheels carefully, they are a bit fragile. Mine was a lower mile car with no curb or visual damage, but had to get three of the wheels straightened after I bought the car to get it to drive smoothly.

Hi, I can probably say a few words here since I own both Brembo(XJR 100) and non-Brembo XJRs.
Non-Brembo: back then I used a EBC pads and upgraded to SS line. It is already more then sufficient for your daily driving in terms of braking performance. Downside, that ATP single cylinder calipers were an eye sore and I always wanted Brembo calipers just for its look. I ended up retrofitting a R1 calipers ( not just an old set but completely stripped down , powder coated, all new hardware's)
