Default XJR R1 Package Brakes

I'm considering the purchase of a 2001-2003 XJR. Ideally, I'd like one with the upgraded "R1 Package" or XJR 100, but I'm concerned with the cost of brake maintenance. I've heard that the larger cross-drilled Brembo discs on these XJRs have short lives and require pad & rotor replacements often at very high costs. Is this true? What kind of maintenance cost difference would there be on an R1/100 compared to a regular XJR, regarding the brakes?

Thanks very much!

The brembo brake package is the major upgrade. Everything else is consmetic, IMHO, such as larger wheels and tires, and some interior upgrades. You will pay more for brakes when they require replacement, probably 2X or more. It's simply your choice. If it were me and I was able to find either an R1 or 100 I would pick it up if the price was right, otherwise you wouldn't regret a straight R model.
