Just like the title says, the radio cuts out sometimes on my 99 xj8. Sometimes it wont do it for a while, other times it will cut out (no static or any noise for about 1-2 seconds) then it will play again. Is this my car or something about the nature of the radio waves? Let me know if this is a common problem.

It's a feature (but really an annoyance) of the stereo. It constantly searches for the best "subfrequency" for a particular station but as you've found out, most of the time it just makes things worse... There is a way to disable that "feature" ( and stop the cut-outs) described in the JTIS manual. I'll have to pull it up again and find the answer for ya...

Here is the code to turn OFF the Alternate Frequency Scan on the radio:
To eliminate this break in radio output, the Alternative Frequency feature of the RBDS should be
switched off using the following method.
1.Press the ‘Tape Eject’ and ‘AM/FM’ buttons simultaneously.
2.The display will show ‘Set Up’. This display will last for 15 seconds, the next operation
must be completed within this period.
3.Press pre-set button 8, to display ‘AF ON’.
4.This display will last for 15 seconds, the next operation must be completed within this
period.
5.Press pre-set button 8 again to display ‘AF OFF’.

Here are 2 old TSBs for the X308 ICE radio head units. These are for the selectable features.

(Another Houston, Texas Jaguar Owner) Only had my Jag for 2 months or so, and I had a problem with a Houston Radio Station 100.3 (Country). I have no problems selecting the station, and have it saved on 2 or 3 presets, and can listen to it for 20 minutes or so, then all of a sudden, the Radio goes silent. I can press another preset station I have it set on, and it will start up for another 20 minutes or so, then that also goes silent. I thought it was just my car, BUT maybe not.?? It only seems to happen on that one station ??? Mmm Mmm.
Maybe I will try your turning off the "Alt Freq Feature", that may just work.
Thank guys, you made me feel a lot better, knowing not only me, has these problems. ??? Really love the car, so much so, I am selling my 2011 Camaro SS, to use this as my daily driver. STILL have a few hopefully minor, electrical issues to sort out BUT ???? Love this Forum. I am also a Member of the Crossfire Forum, as I have a Crossfire SRT6 Roadster as my weekend Runabout.
