Radio Dead on Arrival
Hello My Learned Jaguar Forums Gurus.
I recently bought a 2000 Jaguar XJ8. It is a magnificent car. The original owner handed me all the Jaguar manuals, including the radio reset code.
I knew the radio was not working when I bought it, but how hard could that be. Besides, I had a doner 2004 Jaguar XJ8 with a working radio.
OK. Today I opened the boot (trunk) of the 2004 XJ8 doner, Easily unplugged the two connectors, and removed four M10 nuts. Easy!
Then I popped the boot (trunk) of the 2000 XJ8. To my surprise, there was no amplifier. The dangling unplugged connector was similar but there were only FOUR wires on the connector, not maybe 18-20 as on the doner.
Next, I pulled up my two electrical guides to compare. Not much help.
So, I'm asking.
Is it possible that my 2000 XJ8 DOES NOT have a radio amplifier? Is it possible that the failure is either power or the tuner unit? How can I test it. When the ignition is moved to I or II, and the radio power button pressed, nothing happens. Nothing.
Perplexed in Florida.
Very respectfully, Bob G.

There are 2 versions of the stereo setup and both use the same head unit . With the premium setup the speaker wires come out of a additional power amplifier in the trunk . With the standard setup the speaker wires come out of the head unit . There are 3 fuses to look for and i'm looking up a link on someone elses X308 that had the same issue .
Sometimes in production there will be extra wires install even though you don't have a certain option .

Thank you Lady Penelope. You offer better information than my entire day trying to understand the wiring diagrams. I'll Try to identify the three fuses next. All fuses in the trunk (near battery) tested good).
SUCCESS *** SUCCESS
Thank you AGAIN Lady Penelope. I found the blown fuse under the read seat kick board. Following replacement, the radio came ALIVE. I entered the 4-digit code that came with the car and VOILA! Success.
Please accept my heart-felt thanks. A simple job, once you know where to look.
