Default Rear tires excessive movement 98 XJ8L

Would anyone happen to know which of the suspension components are in need of replacement when the rear tire moves too much? When I kick the tire from the rear, it bounces about an inch to and fro... horizontal play. I've never encountered a suspension set-up such as this one, and Im stumped! I suspect the issue is also what causes the car to hop around when going over bumps.... If anyone knows, and has a link to appropriate parts, it would be greatly appreciated!

I'll guess wheel bearings, but hard to say from behind this keyboard. An inch is crazy movement though. Did you make sure something isn't broken?

Is it just one side, or both?

Both sides. It's def not bearings. The whole control arm seems to move. Shocks? Bushings? I'm quite sure someone else has had this issue. Every problem everyone has had, i've had too. My merkur did this in the front, and it turned out to be sway bar bushings. But i see no sway on the rear!

Any chance you can video the 'movement' and upload it to a free site like photobucket, link it here, so we can see what you are trying to describe a bit better? There are several people around here that are intimately familiar with these suspensions.

A whole INCH of movement !! Soundss like something is really loose under there. I would get it checked out up on a ramp asap.

I was actually considering that. I'll do it today, and post it to youtube.

I just did my fuel tank, so I WAS TOTALLY under there. I looked around, and noticed nothing. It "moves" only when I kick it, or I assume when I go over bumps. Its not like you can grab the tire and move it physically. Im gonna do the video thing to clarify all this. There are no loose parts. I know its a worn item, but just not which one. Which component would cause horizontal movement??
