Default Refinishing Leather Steerong Wheel

My leather wheel is worn and rough mostly at the 9 and 10 position. Anyone have some good fix ideas that makes the wheel match its original color? Or should I just replace with a partially wooden one?

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks

You should be able to refinish and redye the leather; if you are Carnival Red, I'd guessing you have a sable (Jaguar name) colored leather on the wheel. (at least that is what it was on my Carnival Red with SDZ Cashmere XKR) You won't be able to use the kit mentioned in this link as your wheel isn't black, BUT you can piece one together with the same ingredients in a custom color.

This DIY shows the work and I'm actually going to be doing this in my XKR this winter. My coworker who does woodworking is redoing the wood part for me.
