Default Remove intake silencer?

Has anyone removed the intake silencer (it is in the front right fender) from your XJ/XJR?

I removed mine from a lincoln a few years ago and it really made a differance in the sound at WOT. Sounded great!

Any thoughts on this? Would it be easy to do? Would it throw a code?

I would also like to increase my intake sound. Did you get any vacuum leaks on the Lincoln? What part of the intake is the silencer you are talking about? The small cylinder that sticks off the intake tube?

I removed the part in the fender. No vac leaks because its ahead of the MAF/intake manifold.

I also removed part of the air cleaner surround.

All of this was done on my Lincoln, I have not done it on my XJR yet.

I guess the down side to this is that the intake air temp might be a bit higher because you would be draing air from the engine compartment instead of the fender/front of the car.

A good amount of engine performance can be lost that way. Remember that hot air is less dense than cool air, thus making fewer air molecules available for combustion. The XJR engine bay gets very hot. Open element air filters promote the same problem. There are elaborate heat shielding systems out there, but the advantages are by far not worth it compared to the factory setup. If you want your car to sound cool, remove the center exhaust resonator or slap on some MagnaFlows.

There is no intake silencer in the right front fender.

I put one Maganaflow in my Lincoln left side and it was perfect. Civil at idle but really great sound at WOT. Might try that with the XJR.

No silencer in the fender? Really? Well, I guess that is just where the air intake is located off the air filter box.

even with a "cold air intake" the sound from the motor is hardly noticeable. check out the Borla exhaust.
