Replacing Doors
Jude the Jag is Really Poorly
My formally beautiful 2001 3.2Ltr Jaguar purdy cat is poorly since a refuse track racked down her right-side (off-side/drives side in UK) . . . a couple of months ago. I’ll set out that gut wrenching saga another time.
My question at this point is a simple one which I can’t find a thread to clarify. How easy or difficult is it to replace a whole door on my 2001 XJ8 (x308)?
I could get a couple of doors very reasonably, but is it surgery a willing owner could undertake . . . or is it best left to a garage?
All help gratefully accepted

It's dead easy if you're used to working on cars, but aligning them to the bodyshell is another matter - possibly a bodyshop for a final fit to get the shut lines bob on.
It's basically the check straps that are a bolted to the door and the 2 big door brackets, along with the door harnesses, accessed by removing the door panels, which are 'follow your nose' items. A plastic trim tool and Pozi screwdriver for the door card removal.
Depending on the colour you maybe lucky getting a match also - a lot being broken up I notice on facebook.

Hi Shaun and thanks for the quick reply.
I replaced the door stay on drivers door last summer so I'm OK with all that . . . I think it re-assurance(s) about the electrics post-op. as although I removed door card fine I didn't go beyond necessary work. Am I right to think there is a single multi-pin connector for all the electrics from car body into the door? Also, I know it's highly unfashionable now, but I still lock the door with the key now-and-again just to make sure it all sill works. Would any replacement door work with my current key do you know, or am I best getting (a spare) one with the replacement door?
I've seen from other posts that most gremlins post-op would disappear after a battery hard reset. Are there any other pointers to be aware of?
Cheers Stoke Jag Dude
PS - I only call it a door stay to see our American friends indignant astonishment . . Tee hee!

Yes, the lock is something to swap, along with the door modules. The loom is as you say a big connector that splits into the door loom from the door module. When fitting it would be best to have someone support the door as you bolt it up, I've used a Jack before now...
