Hi everyone. I was fortunate to acquire a very nice 2001 XJR last year. Unfortunately, two weeks ago, a rock hit my windscreen, and now it has a very nice crack. Insurance of course is covering the replacement, but the shop is balking at doing the work because they are concerned about the chrome strip over the gasket, which apparently is made of unobtanium. Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you resolve it? I live in Pensacola if anyone can recommend a good shop. Thanks!
Attached is a photo of the trim configuration. You can see how it is mounted. Simply cutting the rubber will release it without damage. The rubber has to be renewed anyway so cutting it out isn't a problem. Once the new rubber is in it a simple reinstall. The glass folks probably don't know how it is mounted since many are mounted on clips and bend and break on removal. Fortunately not in this case.
Thanks guys; the original shop was doing some research and is supposed to call me tomorrow. I will share the diagram and if they still balk, I will call Safelite.
