Default Right Fender Emblem Replacement on 1999 XJ8

I had a new fender emblems placed by my mechanic a few months ago. I bought brand new emblems and noticed the grey insert with the Jaguar on it fell off - I bought another emblem and wanted to replace it myself - simple enough. I was able to get the emblem out of the fender but there is a small plastic fitting attached to a wire which is attached to the emblem. I pulled as hard as I could by hand and could not get the old emblem off. Any trick for this? Thanks.

Hi rsgensburg,

I can't visualize the small plastic fitting attached to a wire which is attached to the emblem. Is it the backing part of the emblem that includes the chrome ring around the leaper insert that you are having difficulty removing?

I don't know if the X308 emblems mount with double-sided tape as on the earlier saloons, but if so, you can use a piece of fine wire like a cheese cutter. Wrap an end of the wire around each hand and leave enough in the middle to slip behind the emblem and gently work the wire through the double-sided tape to separate the emblem from the fender.

Before doing this I apply 2" wide blue painter's tape around the emblem to help protect the paint on the fender.

Some of the double-sided tape will remain on the fender. I use 3M Adhesive Remover, the corner of a kitchen pot scrubber, and a plastic putty knife to carefully remove the residual tape foam and adhesive.

If your problem is something else, can you post a photo?

Cheers,

Don

The wire is just the wire that would be plugged into a turn signal repeater in in the UK and other markets. It should just unclip from the old emblem.

When I got out in the sunlight, I could see that there is a little metal clip that goes around the inner portion of the emblem to attach it to at the plastic holder. Once you take the clip off, the emblem slides off.

The cars in the US don't have the lights. They just have the wire there to simplify body wiring harnes design and construction. Interestingly though, the left emblem does not have the same wire connection. People have gotten these lamp assemblies from the UK and added them to their US spec car.

I did my retrofit sidemarker. Easy and looks 10 times better and its a practical safety feature

Where is the wiring going to the left side? I assume the wiring going to the right side which is already there is functional. Did you have to run some wiring to the left side? Also, do you have a part number ? Thanks.

yes, my friend had to run to wire I believe from the module which controls the turning signal but a very simple work.

your need a harness/socket, I know is the same type as the trunk interior light. (I actually still have one , because I got a pair from a UK spec car, and we need only one)

being said, I also received the amber lenses.

check out the ebay uk site, it pops up from time to time or just ask for it.
