Seconday timing chains

How much slack or play should there be in the chains I have a 2004 4.2 There is about a half inch of slack when I turn the crank back and forth.

You should only turn the crankshaft clockwise when viewed from the front and there should be no slack then. Turning it CCW can cause bearing damage according to the factory manual.
