Default Side mouldings/bump strips/rubbing strips removal?

Thinking of trying to remove the side mouldings from my xj8 and was just wondering if there just stuck on or are there clips underneath aswell? Thanks

They use a two sided adhesive tape.
Manual says a heat gun.
Tape both sides to protect paint.
Apply local heat at one end and using a suitable thin lever progressively ease molding away from body.
Clean surface with white spirit.

The XJR100 came out the factory without the rubbing strips on the door, it does make the car look sleeker. I've removed them on my XJ Sport, and I'm very pleased with the results. Be aware though that there may be a difference in paint colour underneath the strips where it's not been exposed to the sun. To remove them I used a heat gun and a plastic trim tool covered with a cotton cloth to prise and ease the strips off the car.

Exactly that, what I was going to do... Remove those lumps and leave that fancy XJ40 crease visible

I have removed mine, and it does result in a cleaner look from the side. It took some elbow grease to remove all of the double sided tape that has been stuck to the car for the past 17 years. Now, about the darn weld/jack points visible underneath the car....

I thought of cutting them off and welsing the eariler style studs to the underneath instead.

I've been planning on running a stainless steel piece along the bottom of the rocker from front to rear wheel about an inch wide that will mount to and cover the the underbody hem, partially cover the jack points and add some nice finished interest along the bottom of the car.

They can be made by someone like Stainless Supply for about $100 per side.

I haven't gotten around to it yet, but it's an easy modification. Once I do, I'll post some photos, etc.
