Default smoke from engine

I get smoke from the engine compartment,(not inside the car) but not all the time.

Seems like it located at the rear part of the valve covers but can't say for sure.

Any idea what else I can check. Would the valve cover gaskets be a cause here?

TIA

Most likely. There is a propensity for the corners to leak because of over-tightening of the corner bolts to the point of cracking the valve cover.

From what you are saying it could very well be the valve cover gasket leaking. Replacing them is not a problem other than making sure the surface on the head and cover are clean, level and when reinstalled properly torque. If not you will be doing it again.

Jag gaskets are notorious lor leaking at the rear corners. Especially passenger side rear. Install a new set and torque to spec in order. This is the most important part and most ignored. Can't tell you how many I've seen that were overtightened and leaked worse than the originals.

Yes

10 N.m is NOT much to most of us.

More damage has been wrought through over tightening than not tight enough, in most cases. It is never right to tighten till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.

Any tips on buying the VC gasket set.

I see different ones for different type motors, and one rubber gasket.

Fel pro, victor reinze, from $54 to $99.00

Not sure which to get.

I was out of town and did not see your post As for the color I am not sure but a call to Jaguar or the person you got the parts from can help. I do not have an answer for you now. As for the obstructions, whatever is in the way. You would be surprised at what people will attempt to do.

I am unable to recall but I would say 8mm or 10mm. You will need metric tools..
