Cool smokin'

just replaced my intake manifold on my 1998 xj8 and upgraded the thermostat housing while i was in there. the car started up with little effort and idles very smoothly. noticed the low coolant level warning light and topped off the cloolant---light went out---alls good,so i thought! while driving home i noticed alot of smoke comming out of the exhaust. it was more steam than smoke but it is very noxious in odor and rips your nose off if you breath it. it does not smell like antifreeze. help----help----help. any ideas or notions would be very appreciated. thanks john.

Hmm.. well i would suggest to take it in and do the sniff test to make sure that there is no coolant in the exhaust. I was blowing white thick smoke in my 98 xjr and turned out to have traces of coolant. Also keep an eye out for the low coolant wRning, mine would come on and id top it off and after about a week or so it would come on again with no leaking frm the engine bay. I hope your issue is not as bad as mine is. Good luck to u.
