Default Splash shield

XJ8 came without a splash guard. Putting on one ordered from PartsGeek. Just a zip tie over this cross bar? Did it originally have something else?

Mine was tucked up between that and the sway bar when I got it in 2011 and I've always put it back that way. Kind of winds up resting on the front of the oil pan. Don't know if that's how it came from the factory, but it works. Its never popped out or come loose.

A zip tie should be fine. The duchess has it tucked up above the sway bar.

The early car had NOTHING holding the center. I used to drill holes and add a 'zip-tie' when it was sagging and in for repair or service.

They all got the 'ratchet-straps' eventually.

Wow! Seems like reversing over a fairly small obstacle could rip it right off.

Driving too far forward over a parking spot block can ruin your day, too (experience).

Not specifically Jaguars, but I often marvel at the number and percentage of sports cars and sedans that I see going down the road with parts dangling underneath or even dragging the ground in extreme cases. Most of them I believe are portions of splitters, splash shields or undercovers ripped by pulling up over parking stops or transitioning the gutters where side streets cross the main thoroughfare. Its got to be well north of 25 or 30%. Probably another factor people consider when buying an SUV; they remember hearing that awful scraping noise two or three times a week when they were driving their last sedan. I have sure made extensive use of the front parking sensors on my XF and can't wait for Steeda to come up with a new version of their front camera kit for the S650. At least with the 308, its a lot easier to judge where the front of the car is.

Hmmm...they call that an undertray? I wonder what genius came
up with that designation?
