steering pump replacement 2000 xj8
I just replaced the power steering pump on my 2000 xj8 VP. I found a few things others starting this project may benefit from knowing. Remove the front left wheel and the plastic inner fender. When you remove the serpentine belt keep the wrench on the tensioner nut and tie it over to the hood lift cylinder. You need this so you can get one of the bolts out of the mounting bracket. You only need to remove the 2 long bolts. The high pressure hose accessible from the wheel well has a nut that screws into a fitting in the pump. Mine was frozen solid. What it should do is spin around on the neck of the hose tube. Use a penetrating oil and wiggle it back and forth untill it spins freely. You will probably have to grab the tube with vice grips ( carefully) so it doesn't spin while you work to free the nut. Once it spins you can proceed to remove the pump without further issue. EXCEPT....you will notice a small tube going into the top of the rad. Disconnect that and get it out of the way. It breaks easily.
