Default stereo volume question

I have noticed that the volume level on my 98 isn't right. When I first turn it on it is very low, even though I take it up to a numerical 35. After, say 2-5 minutes, the volume reaches a level where I can hear it ok as I'm driving(vol35). With the volume cranked all the way up like that, It should be uncomfortable on the ears. Could this be a problem with the Amp ? Radio ? Is level 35 the max for volume ? It's the Harman/Kardon system.

Thanks,
Jim

Have heard tales that the Harman/Kardon speakers have a foam mounting for the cones that deteriorates quite badly over time.
There are repair kits out there on the interweb, but I would be tempted to replace with newer, more modern speakers of the same spec, if they are available ?

Default Update

Replaced 2 speakers yesterday and all is well. Volume @ 13 is now loud and goes way beyond. My thanks to all who provided guidance on pulling door panels. I did find I'm missing a couple of pine tree fasteners on my rear door........ is there a source for these ??

You won't find those fasteners at your local auto parts store, they are dealer or OEM supplier only as far as I know.

I got some for my XJR from these guys, they ship parts all over the USA:Thoroughbred Motors | Sarasota, FL | SureCritic Reviews
