Default Sunroof seal

Replacing the seal on my sunroof as the old one is dried and worn. I noticed that the TSBs and the manual calls for the use of Jaguar crimping tool JD 200, which is discontinued (and bet was expensive). is there an alternative way to crimp the seal

I tried to buy one about 6 months ago. They were still listed @$150, but after I placed the order I was told not available.
My next thought would be to try dealer service. Maybe borrow it?
If not I may sacrifice a pair of channel locks and make something.

Was sitting here searching for a tool to crimp the seal, and was just giving thought, is there a reason to crimp or could you ude some type of sealer instead

After my repaint, I partially crimped the most opened parts of the seal with pliers, and then pressed it back onto the panel by hand. It's worked so far (almost a year), but I never open my sunroof.
