Default Throttle body ?

Long story short, heater hose started leaking, so I pulled off the supercharger to gain access, as you do. Then ended up in hospital ( think it was finding out the price of intercooler duct seals that done it ) Anyway nearly 2 months later I have nearly got it all back together. Went to put the throttle body on but the 4 bolts are too long. Have I lost a spacer from between the elbow and throttle body ? ( don't remember one ) put 4 shorter bolts in the wrong place ? (more likely, but cant see where ) Or something else equally stupid ? Any help gratefully anticipated . Andy

how much gap have you got?
Thinking about an S/C r&r I don't think there's that many bolts to get mixed up, but gaps in work schedules always produce a beauty!

There's a TB-elbow metal coated in rubber gasket, you have that? It's only thin though.
I know what you mean about the price of the duct seals, what did you pay for them?

The unthreaded portion of the bolts come through the bottom of the TB about 4mm. The oblong gasket that fits to the rear of supercharger ? ( NCC7754BA ) that parts in. I know, you cannot mix up the water rail bolts, intercooler bolts, elbow bolts or the duct bolts, its a bigger mystery to me than MH 370. lol.

Forgot, the duct seals were £72.18 plus VAT for the pair. Must have been priced by Dick Turpin !!!

You may have got the throttle elbow and body bolts mixed up?

Also those seals are a different type, as they were superceded, you need to check your aluminium parts have a groove in them for the seals to sit in if not they will leak......

I can show pics if you want

Thank you XKRacer, you were spot on. The Dr told me I could not drive until he done some more tests, didn't tell me I couldn't think straight as well. How the hell I mixed those up is anybodys guess.

OK Here you go

The items on the left are the older style, you will see there is no ridge on the rubber cotton reel gasket and no groove in the aluminium parts, the ones on the right do. The problem is you can only buy the ridged type and if the aluminium plates do not have the groove in them for the ridge to sit in they will fail, not immediately but within a few weeks....

As I said the gaskets have been superseded by the ridge type which means you really need to get the aluminium parts too, that's another £200 thank you very much!!

XKRacer, My duct seals have not got the ridge, they are exactly the same as removed. The ally plates are smooth as well, I wish I had taken pictures of them now, but definitely smooth. Thanks again to you and Sean B for helping me get over my brain fart with the bolts. Andy

No worries Andy but I got the impression you bought new seals? Am I to assume I have shown the correct part but you got smooth and not ridged?

If so where did you get them from?

Yes, new seals are the smooth type as in the left ones in your photo. Got them from www.britishparts.co.uk , they show two types dependent on engine number.

Please take into account the first I knew about the grooved/ridged seals and clamps was a little earlier today, and I have only seen them in your photo, would it be impossible for a man with your talents to machine the grooves into smooth clamps ? Or have I just had another brain fart ? Andy

Yeah I could do it, not a problem to swing that on a lathe. I would need a simple jig, could be done quite cheaply too, cheaper than buying new put it that way
