Timing Chain tensioners, especially the top. Very fragile plastic parts (thanks Ford) and significant suspension deterioration from rotting seals (more Ford junk). The leather seating surfaces are crap and you may have to redo them. Replace the cooling expansion tank and cap and the engine water pump, and the plastic cross over cooling pipe and plastic t-stat housing. The tanks crack, the pump is inferior and will fail and there is a metal replacement t-stat housing.
I got mine with only 44,669 miles on it and have replaced tons of parts that were inferior. Lugnuts must go. Replace with one piece units. Get a new battery. Voltage drops from a weak battery causes false engine code readings.
Here is my list of part replacement.
Tires/Brake rotors and pads
Coolant tank..buy the good one here.
Cap
Lugnuts
Water Pump
T-stat housing
Coolant crossover pipe
Battery
Headliner
Leather Seats redone
Upper timing chain tensioners
Suspension control arms and vertical post
New front wheel hubs
Front and rear stabilizer links
Coils and Plugs
Gaskets
AC Dryer
The 4.0 is a good engine but has some flaws that were the fault of Ford bean counters forcing Jag to install cheap parts. The same cheap parts they put in the Lincoln LS many times. You can install most of this easily and Amazon and O'Reilly Auto Parts, Terry's Jag, and others are your friends (check prices on everything). Most repairs are covered here by someone with expertise who has done it. Be sure you get the big manual about the car. Lots of knuckle saving information there. Today, after driving this car 35,000 more miles, it has no leaks and everything is working well. My part cost to date is about $4710. I do my own labor. This does include 2 sets of tires and does not include oil/filters/air filters.
