towing and starter motor

My 2000 XJR starter motor seems to have packed up.
Can anyone advise if I can tow the car without a problem (its an automatic)
Also any advise on the original type of starter motor fitter so I can look for a replacement?
Thanks

Thanks for the info.
When you turn the ignition there is a loud click at the starter motor, as if the solenoid engages but the
bendix did not throw out and turn.
Does this sound like anything you mentioned in your reply?

I think if the battery is low, you will see a few transmission errors. So, if you don't get any errors like that and all lights come up fine, I would assume the battery is fine.
Good luck!

If it is the starter, let me know before you get a new one or send it to get re-manufactured! I can get it reman'd for you for 50 bucks, and it'll be just as good if not better than new, and I've been using this shop for over 5 years and they are EXCELLENT! They re-manufacture starters and alternators for 40 bucks plus a 10 buck deposit for the core! Since you'd be sending the starter it should just be 40 bucks, but you never know! They might see Jag and charge a bit more! All you'd have to do is pay shipping both ways, or if you live in the Miami area, let me know and we can arrange something and go together! It only takes about 30 mins-1 hour to re-manufacture, so down time will really only be shipping! Think about it and let me know! I personally won't charge anything, it's always a pleasure to help out! If you don't trust it, that's on you! I'm a mod, so that should be a little reassuring! PM me and I'll send you my number if you want to talk!
check the positive point! and megafuse! seen alot of people replace starter 's due to this problem.... and there always wrong. with the melted points you still get all the lights to light up and no trani or track errors. just when you want to crank she does not crank .. instead of assuming things you can take 2 minutes to check the megafuse and positive points.
Jag Genius- What is a megafuse? I just towed my 83 xjs home because it would not run smoothly. I got it home and it would just do the clicking noise. I unhooked the battery when we towed it home so the fuel pump would not run. Since I needed the key in the on position to release the steering wheel lock. I am stuck right now and went from one problem to two problems. Thoughts?
