On my 2001 XJR. I am in the middle of an engine swap and have managed to lose a bit of trans fluid disconnecting the lines and need to top it off. The dipstick is capped off and sealed. I have heard dirty rumors of just such stupidity and now need to know what to do.

This car has the Mercedes transmission in it. Thanks

 

you need a dipstick..for that trani there about 40-50.or you can just estimate the amount you lost and pour it. and roadtest..

 

Yeah, I just added about 2/3rds of a quart thru the removed dipstick hole at the tranny and everything seemed fine. I called the dealer and they said there is a "special tool" they use to check the fluid level, I highly suspect the "special tool" is just a dipstick like you say.

 

It is a cable type dipstick. MB uses same. That is what the dealer is gonna use.
