Default tranny fluid appearance

ok I got under the jag today because I suspected that the tranny fluid was low. I jacked it up set it level and popped off the fill plug and about a half a pint of fluid poured out. seems like it was slightly over filled to me but that wasn't what bothered me the most. the fluid appeared brown to me instead of red like most tranny fluid. not brown like burnt oil but more like almost new oil. my question is are there brands of our fluid that are brown rather than red or is my fluid just really really overdue for a flush

The Jag fluid comes new brown. It should not be dark brown, though. Also, the fluid level gets checked with the engine running. If it is not running it will always be high.

If you removed the level plug with the engine NOT RUNNING, then you now have a gearbox with a low fluid level if it was correct before you removed the plug!!!!!!!

Please read the instructions before you start playing around with unfamiliar procedures.

Temperature is the determining factor for the fluid level.
