Trans is now in limp mode p1722
WTF?? Should I just bite the bullet now and change transmissions? I got the big bang coming to a stop, reverse works perfectly. Transmission fault comes up and p1722 (trans stall speed failure) is the code. The car stays in fifth gear. I have a spare transmission, but I don't know the working condition of it. Is the one I have currently in the car shot? The car drove fine before I changed the engines/tranmissions.

Thanks for the help guys[sm=insomnia.gif] I'll be switching transmissions tomorrow. I just hope the other one is good. I'm rebuilding the known bad one over the next week, probably order parts tomorrow or Tuesday, once I find out what I need. So if anyone has tranny questions pertaining to the ZF, I'm sure I'll have the answers for you.

Kind of an update. I pulled the bad trans out and halfway dissassembled it before I found the problem. I'll get the pics up by tomorrow with a better and more detailed write-up and pictures so you guys know what I'm talking about. And for those who DO know what I'm talking about already, NO, it's not a cracked drum. (I was very suprised at this myself) I'll paypal $20 to anyone who guesses what went wrong. Hint: its internal and mechanical. Not electrical. Good luck.

very interested in this as i have the same symptoms, the thud from the light when stppin go on the gas, reverse is good, neutral fine, 5th gear limp home mode. Although when it is put into D it seems to hold pretty well and not slide or slip, almost like the brake is on. I have a 98 XJ8, 105k miles. I could definately use this info.

for one theses trannies dont normally have electrical faults
almost always a fluid pressure issue
stall speed/incorrect ratios etc etc
only electrical faults that i can recall was the trans temp sensor harness issue
but were all waiting to hear more from MeatHammer

RE: Trans is now in limp mode p1722
Greetings Larry,
Price depends on how many miles on a used trans you want to settle for, I have two at present. My trip to Cape Cod takes me through Buffalo, which is 2:40 south of you. So long as there aren't problems with coming across the border with a transmission in my back seat, that gets it to you with a significant savings on shipping costs. Send me a private message if you are interested.
