?? transmission whine ??
Ok masters, here's my big question. My car starts a low pitched whine at 50 mph and stops upon reaching 55 mph.
I noticed this new noise after I had new tires put on in December, oddly. But I think that has nothing to do with the origin of the noise as the car does not whine when sport mode is engaged. 2001 VDP 60,000 miles. Jaguar service recommended going to transmission shop (comforting). I also notice on occasion, at low speeds, when slowly re-accelerating, the engine will rev accordinglythen the tranny will "catch up"to the engine and the car will lurch. I've adapted my foot to avoid heavy lurching. Could I just be catching the transmission as it prepares to downshift? I'd like to do a thorough flush before the summer heat returns, too.
Your thoughts?
Tom

RE: ?? transmission whine ??
I highly advise againt flushing that transmission. Had a high number of them fail after drain and refills. I say this only if it hasnt been flushed previously. They are sensitive and with that many miles I would say dont.
Does it lurch like that out of sport mode? In sport mode? I know you said the whine is not there in sport mode. That is because the pressures in the transmission are slightly higher. Sounds like your trans is slipping a little. Take it easy with it. May last for a while.
Did I say dont flush it?

I'm usually quick to switch out of sport mode when I'm off the freeway-sport mode sounds ironic in a VDP- so I don'tknow either way.I get it now, aint broke, dont fix it. HEHEHE. I'll stop obsessing until the day the car doesn't move under its own power anymore. Andtrust me, I can't take it any easier- I might fall into a coma behind the wheel.
