Is there a trick to replacing the H7 low-beam headlight bulbs on a 2000 XJR?

The owner's maintenance manual makes it look simple ... stick your hand in, squeeze the clip, pull out the bulb, and pop in a new one. However, I couldn't get the clip to budge.

yeah that should just pop right off. I had to do it for mine, be sure you get a grip on it and try wiggling it around a little bit to take it out. Ph, and when you put the new one in, make sure you wear gloves, because if you get any oil or anything onto the bulb, you'll be replacing it pretty soon.

 

Is there any kind of tool that might help get the thing out? I tried a vise grip, but it was too big.
