Default Trunk/Boot

Need advice again. My battery went dead. Took it out and charged it. When I put it back in the trunk. I left the negative cable off the battery. So it wouldn't drain again.Problem....Can't get my trunk open. There has to be a way to open it.Thanks.

1998 XJ8

Your key

I did the same thing, disconnected the battery to do some work, closed the trunk, then wondered "how am I going to open the trunk?!?" when the button didn't work. I was planning all kinds of fancy shennanigans when it dawned on me that I could just turn the key manually to open the lid. Modern tech keeps making me have these brain farts.

Finally got my truck/boot open. When I bought my 1998 XJ8 in July,I received only one key with her, The key I have is black. If I had the second key{green one} would it open my trunk? I have to figure out something. If not, I will end up in the same situation down the road.Thanks.

Keep an eye out on my website (www.thejagwrangler.com) for an emergency trunk opener which will work with most Jaguar models. It will work if your keys are misplaced or locked in the trunk and/or your battery is dead (it has its own 10 year lithium battery).

It will work by using the outside trunk pushbutton to type in a secret 3 digit PIN you can set yourself. Around 100 bucks. It will feature super easy installation in 15 minutes with no tools. I have an operating protoype now and expect it to be available in December.

The green key is the valet key. Spend some money and get a master key and at least one remote.

Thanks for your replies to my question. Tirefriar, just to make sure I am 100% sure on what you are saying. If I had the green key...it definitely would open my truck? Where would I have to go to get this. I'm guessing Jaguar. Same with the remote? Thanks again.

The black key opens the trunk/boot. The green key (valet) will not.

Chris,
Yes, except the complete opposite of what you just said.

I seemed to have missed the fact that you have a master key rather than the valet. So, no the green key would not help. However, do get yourself an extra black key. A remote would not hurt, very convenient.

My black key will not open my trunk. Am I doing something wrong? My mechanic and I tried everything with it.With no success. Tried this with my battery terminals reconnected. Thanks again.

Either your lock is broken or your car was rekeyed at some point and the trunk was not included.

Check with a locksmith -- or maybe try some graphite. The lock could be "frozen."

My Trunk Lock was VERY tight the first time I tried it. I thought it was not set up to open without a battery. It's just a mechanical lock, no power needed. I'm with OldMike, try lubing it, that helped mine.
