Default trunk open warning

Yesterday my trunk open light came on on the dash even though the trunk is closed. as a result i cannot arm the alarm or lock the car. also, the push buttons inside and on the trunk lid and the keyfob no longer work, only the key? any suggestions where to start? thanks in advance!

Hi Steven

Just a wild guess but I would suspect your wiring loom that runs down the trunk hinge has become damaged.

You trunk open/closed signal goes through that harness, as does the power to pop the trunk (from either the key fob, dash button or trunk button)

As you can open the trunk with the key (this is a physical / manual operation, I guess thats why it's still working) get in and have a look. The loom runs down the right hand hinge as you look into the trunk, standing at the back of the car. Pry off the plastic cover that holds the wiring to the hinge and have a look at the part just as the loom comes out of the plastic cover. I had no trunk lights because of this, and when I inspected the loom it was a miracle that was my only problem as the loom was in a real mess.

Let us know if thats the cause for you
