ok, I found a XKR shifter within NY state 2 days shipping and wondering if they are the same part

otherwise there is only one XJR shifter online from LA takes 5 days-shipping

I am debating between time and distance now,

Yes, the XKR and XJR shifter assemblies should be the same, assuming the XKR is a five-speed Mercedes year (2002 and older) and not the six-speed ZF (2003 and newer).

Lookup the part numbers for both. If the numbers match, then they are the same part.

ok, found one for XJR according to the seller it is from an "R"

I called my mechanic,he said he could not just swap the whole sifter assembly in my car but salvaged some parts from my old shifter and some needed parts from yours to rebuild a shifter. no doubt he charged more labor than I expected

why why

I just did this today and fitted a XJR J Gate to an XKR and I checked the part numbers on the back, apart from manufacture date they were identical

So visa versa.......
