hello all
well here is what I did this time. when we bought the xj8 1998 it had one working remote fob and one black key and one green one. I bought another remote so befor trying to program them i changed the batteries and when i tried to program them i was unable to get into the programing mode (turn key from 1 to 2 4 quick times then take key out ) so neither remote works now, then i pushed the valet switch and now i can't open the trunk. neither key will open the trunk. can any one help with these problems?

 

The black key should open the trunk. If it won't, you have mechanical problems there. Once you get the trunk open see if the trunk lights and license plate lights work. If not, take the plastic cover off the wiring wrap in the right trunk hinge and unwrap and check for broken wires. You'll never get it out of valet mode if there is a problem with these wires, and it happens to all of them, unless you never open the trunk. Also, I thought learn mode involved pulling the high beam staulk back 4 or 5 times with key in positiopn 1 or 2 ?

 

I was under the impression that moving the h/beam switch worked on the xk model but thank you

 

Look it up. U turn key to position 2 and pull high beam stalk 4 times...etc
