Default Valve Cover Decal

Have my covers off at the moment and the Jaguar decal on the driver side cover has seen better days. Probably going to remove it now, but does anyone know where to get a relacement? I looked around and didn't find anything, maybe not available anymore? Was hoping somebody made these aftermarket, would think its pretty common for them to peel or come off due to the engine heat.

There are not many sources for the original. There are some alternatives, however in the purist
outlook, none that are really acceptable. Salvage yards are viable alternatives and becoming
"picked over" to a greater extent all the time. So much so that having a parts car is becoming
an increasingly attractive position.

The part number is NCB2581AA but is likely NLA.

Thanks @motorcarman , as you said can't find one availabel anywhere...If anyone happens to see this thread and has a source please let me know. I removed the old one for now and that's fine, but would really like to replace it at some point if possible.

Yes @RandyS parts like that are becoming rather scarce and more of these beautiful cars get scrapped every day. There is a semi-local guy with an XJR and a blown motor that he's selling as a parts car. I originally contacted him about the Asteroid wheels on the car but he won't sell them separately. He only wants $900 for the car and thinking more and more that it might be worth it. I really don't need another entire car haning around, but I know I could get some useful parts and probably actually make some money on the car. Still thinking it over...

I love parts cars. (I have 3 running X308 sedans and 3 X308 parts cars)

Having acreage helps but I keep the goats separated from my personal salvage yard. (they climb on EVERYTHING)

I have a couple acres, but not enough to keep a bunch of parts cars (wish I did). I can get away with one here and there, but not enough room to hide as many as I'd want.

A few of my letters are flopping. Not sure how long it would last, but I had come upon this as an option:

https://nicedecal.com/products/jagua...RoCjwAQAvD_BwE

You can customize the color and size.

Interesting, thanks for posting. For that price even if it lasts just a bit I can buy a few and have extras. Might give this a shot, thanks.

I'm almost certain I just saw these for sale, maybe here in the marketplace...I'll have a look around and see if I can find them.

Yes sir, Absolutely., I knew the specified fitment was different, however I also know that some of the more determined
forum members know how to use scissors and achieve the desired results. Especially so in the absence of any available
model specific decals. However, should you find a better solution, please share.

Not sure if these are still available but the "listing" was just from last month:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1651852458475699/search/?q=engine%20letters
Either this site or Facebook doesn't seem to like the link or - more likely - it's from a Private Group that you need to join.

If the latter, it was from the "Jaguar XJR X308" owners group, which should be readily "joinable", and it was posted on June 28 offering "...a very few, brand new 'JAGUAR' high-temperature, self-adhesive labels. These labels are no longer available from Jaguar, and there are no signs that they will become re-available at any time soon, or indeed at all. Jaguar original part number NCB2581AA. £19 plus postage. Will ship worldwide."

Not sure if the poster still has any available but hopefully this will help...

Thanks for all the replies guys. @Ken Cantor - I'm in the FB group, must have missed that post. I'll take a look and see if he has any left. Thanks!

I have a nephew who had a plotter/cutter thing (not sure what it's officially called) that can cut stencils. He was able to find a font that was really close to the original, except slightly italicized. He did magic things, made it the size I wanted, and I sprayed about 12 super light coats of white plastic paint on it, and this is how it looked. This picture is several years old, but it still looks very nice. It's not the exact font, but it would be hard to tell if you didn't know any better. I will reach out to him to see if he remembers anything about the font. If you can find a font that works, it might be just a matter of taking it to a professional printer and having the stencil cut. Cleaning the surface a billion times is the key to making the paint stick, but it worked well for me. I had the same problem as you're having, hard to find the part, hard to find a sticker, etc.

This is the photo that was with the ad if it helps anyone scale the original font to have a stencil or decal made:

@aquifer that looks pretty decent. If you still have the file I can definitely have it printed, let me know. On another note - The intercoolers in your photo look just like mine (uncoated) and they are the only two cars I've seen like that. My previous XJR and others I've seen have the darker coating on them from the factory. I was starting to think mine was replaced, but is yours original? Mine is an early 98, did the early cars come without a coating?

Mine is original as far as I know. I think the early 98’s must have came that way. My nephew is looking for the file but he’s not too optimistic about finding it. If he does, I’ll definitely pass it along.

I might try this one and see how it compares.

so I ordered one from nice decals. Unfortunately the size proportions meant that if it stayed in the 6.5" length, the letters would only be .5" tall. They were able to stretch the image a bit, so I will now get them in 6.5 by 1.25. Pic looks ok, but will see how it is in real life. Also, the J on this template is not any taller than the other letters, so it won't look quite stock.
