Default VDP Driver's Seat Tilt Motor

Morning gents, quick question today

The driver's seat tilt back motor on a '99 VandenPlas (recline motor for just the upper portion of the seat) ..where is that located exactly? I have a diagram from Jaguar showing it located inside the actual seat itself? Is it not on the track? Please respond when convenient.

Best,

David

If you're referring to the seat back tilt, I believe the motor is located in the back of the seat. I'm not sure how the vdp seat backs come off, on my xjr there are two phillips screws under the bottom edge, then it can slide down a bit and come off.

Just a thought, before you tear into the tilt motor what is the seat doing?
Recline but not come forward? The seat control boxes are infamous for failure. When it breaks the tilt function is the first one effected.
The control box can be repaired if that is the problem. Also, if the seat is stuck reclined you can remove the control box from beneath the drivers seat and install it in the passenger seat to restore the seat to position and then put it back in the drivers seat.

Morning, gents. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

The problem I'm having is that the upper portion of the seat will not recline. The entire seat itself will tilt forwards and backwards, but the upper portion will not move independently. You can hear the switch working when you press it, but no go on the motor/control box? Any way to test this aside from a $120 scan at the dealer? haha

Cheers!

You can pull the seat (or just unbolt and lean back slightly) and disconnect the motor harness from the controller module. Then find the correct pins for the recline motor and feed 12v to them and see what happens.

electrical guide shows it being pins 1 and 2, red/orange and red/slate wires. Make sure to power the motor harness and not the switchpack harness, each should have a different color wire set.

If you're getting the relay click then that probably means the motor is getting voltage. My headrest motor was doing the same thing, click with no movement, until I installed a new battery and played with the adjustment a few times, it managed to free itself up somehow. If it stopped working over time then I'd say motor is frozen or there's something stuck in the mechanism the motor drives.

Does the drivers side work correctly? If so, remove the control box from underneath the seat and swap it with the passenger seat. It is held up by 2 nuts 10mm. Raise the seats as high as possible and tilt them back, that should give you enough room to remove thee plastic box. Once removed unplug it and install it in the passenger seat. If it works then the seat module for the passenger seat needs to be repaired. If it doesn't you will need to remove the seat switch and verify with a Multi-meter that the switch is actually good.
Once those test are done and good then it could be the wiring, plug connection, or tilt motor.
I will take a look at JTIS later and see what you need to remove the tilt motor.
Try the troubleshooting first.

Thanks guys, I'll check it out. Any idea on a part number for that motor, by the way? I'll try swapping the control boxes and see what happens
