VDP S/C questions
Couple of questions for the crowd,
Who knows when the VDP S/C actually first made it to the US? Literature I dig up says 2000.Do the first 2000's have 1999 VIN's?(wasn't the S/C daimler available earlier than the VDP?)Also all VDP S/C's had the MBZ five speed correct? and lastly, Does the "F" code in the VIN also apply to mid 2000 and up VDP S/C's? (non-nikasil blocks)

RE: VDP S/C questions
it's called a "continuously variable transmission" which they borrowed from Mercedes. I don't fully understand how it works, other than that it works on a pulley system. "How stuff works" has a speel on it if anyone is interested. When they made the V8 and supercharged it (98 xjr, which is my car), they didn't have a transmission that could handle all the torque so they borrowed from the Germans. I love the way it drives. You don't feel any shift points.

RE: VDP S/C questions
Thanks again for the input,JG is correct it is the 5hp (partial part #, not horse power), not a CVT unit. CVT's use belts, and are kind of like the setup a drill press uses, only the ratio's can be infinitely adjusted (without having to unplug your car from the outlet, and change the pulley sizes)
