Default Vvt...?

Can anyone give me the process of setting these when doing the timing chains and tensioners job.

Being a supercharged engine man, I've no experience with the VVT system.

I do not want to recount the steps from the manual since I might mess it up (I'm of the XJR pursuasion myself), but there has been a heated discussion on here about the need to do this step. I believe the VVT will naturally unwind itself to the non advanced posion, BUT there have been those that reported mistimed engines and they seem to have left out this step. Of course, what you are doing in the manual's procedure is not only taking the slack out of the tight side of the chains AND assuring that the VVT is in the nuetral or unadvanced position. I THINK that simply means pulling the exhaust sprocket in the right direction while tightning.

Yep, like Ross said they are centered at zero degrees when there is no oil pressure in the unit.

They have an internal spring that does the job.

Here's a page from the jag technical guide that describes what I'm talking about.

Good luck,
