VVT Solenoid ?
HI. can anyone explain me what is this vvt solenoid and how it works... and is it posible to drive the car if its broken, what are the simptoms when it (vvt) goes down? I took my jag to mechanic after it started to shake ( feels more like misfire ) and the mechanic says it's probably the vvt solenoid.... PROBABLY!?!? wtf! it costs 200$ ( more or less) and if i'll change it and nothing will happen, what then ? PROBABLY it's some other problem
so if anyone knows something about this solenoid please share your knowledge with me I would really appreciate that.

If your car has an AJ27 engine, (1999 and later), then there is cam position sensor for both of the C V V T assemblies that will cause a check engine light if either solenoid or advance unit fails. If it is a 1996 through 1998 engine, I'm not so sure if a V V T assembly fault on the right bank would necessarily cause a fault code to be stored. Still, a failure of either solenoid will cause a warning. The result of a failed V V T or C V V T solenoid would be that one of the camshafts is not advancing in response to demand from the Engine control module, which would have zero effect on the idle quality of the engine. It would likely just feel down on power when acceelerating and cause a fault to be displayed.
