VVT Sprocket on 2001 Jaguar VDP
I have the timing off right now and was curious if there was anyway to test to make sure the vvt sprocket is good without having to put everything back together and find that the car has a rough idle.
What makes you think the sprocket could be bad? How many miles do you have on it? Initially there's only a couple of guys that could likely answer that with certainty, ...Plums and Motorcarman. I'm sure there are probably others, but they'll have to let us know who they are when they read this.
Its not a big hassle to put it together and see how snug everything is or isn't.

119000, I took it apart to rebuild the engine heads and put new timing chains and tensioners on it. But I got to looking at the sprockets, this is very hard to explain unless you are looking at it, but it's very hard to push the center. I took the sprocket apart and looked at it further soaked it in some oil, I just don't want to put it together, have a rough idle and then have to take it back apart and end up replacing them, I'll probably just go ahead and buy some new ones, but I'd like to know if there is anyway to test them to see if they're good.
No, what I was saying about putting it together was putting on the tensioners and chains and seeing how snug everything fits. Not putting on the chain cover and everything together. Odds are the rough idle is from a lose chain from broken guides and/or tensioners. Mine tightened up immensely from where I took it apart and it performs a solid notch up from pre chain rebuild.
I'm pretty sure I know what your saying, but for a sprocket to wear is quite unusual. I would be looking at the cam lobes or an injector for rough idle. I have never seen a post about a bad sprocket.
Review this... Tmingi chain and tensioner replacement ...and see if there's something there that can help you explain it better. Also, go take a pic and show us your concern so we can better understand. Did you have a restricted performance or any codes before dismantling it? The more you can tell us, hopefully the better.

We had the shop foreman remove and dismantle a VVT unit/sprocket assy at the Jag Dealer I worked at back in the early 2000s. He NEVER did get it reassembled correctly/satisfactorily and just ordered a new one from PARTS DEPT.
After seeing the internals, I was never interested in disassembling one.
You might want to look for a good-used unit for re-installation?
There are no user-servicable parts so there is no need to disassemble.
