Default What exactly is a 2002 XJ8 SE?

I saw this on the Welsh site with this description:

"XJ8 SE (Special Edition) trunk / boot badge. This is for 2002 special edition models only."

I know there is the Special Edition XJR ("100").

What car is the XJ8 SE?

Thanks.

I'm under the impression that SE is just a trim level. My X-Type is a SE, which stands for "Special Equipment". I recall in some episode of Top Gear James May saying the V8 SE would be his choice of an XJ because he considers it the most "Jaguar-y", instead of the XJR or so.

Hum . . . well, there is this:

Jaguar XJ8 SE | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

and two more pictures if you use the arrow pointing right.

Not seeing anything special. One GB site has content that suggests that the GB XJ8 SE equals the XJ8L in the US.

What is "special" about a 'special edition" ?
Not much more than a "limited" edition being only limited by the numbers of cars they can sell.

I love this! And it is what I have always said. Buick used the "Custom" for the basic and "Limited" badging for their better appointed models for years. For instance the Roadmaster Custom vs. the Roadmaster Limited.

Back to the Jaguar SE. I have seen a couple of references to the SE as being "Special Equipment." Tho you would think a source such as Welsh Enterprises would know and they definitely say "Special Edition."

Also interesting, if these cars were for the UK market why does Welsh have a lot to sell?

Wikipedia says,

Produced only in 2002, the SE (Special Equipment) model was fitted with more equipment than the base model, and offered at a competitive price. The rear badging read "SE", and the cars were fitted with reverse parking sensors as standard.

I have one, it's UK market 2002 model, having parking sensors and headlights washer, rain sensor, automatic and leveling headlights and a lot of cheap fake leather on the seats and console... The only real leather is on the seats (only the parts being in contact with the occupants), and the front seats rear pockets. The steering wheel is part wood part leather too.

Fake leather on an X308? I'm quite surprised. It's the same with the X-Type, just the steering wheel, gear knob (some models), seating surfaces and possibly the arm rest are real leather.

Then again, fake leather on the parts you rarely or never touch does make sense as it requires much less maintenance. Imagine cleaning and taking care of the seat backs, door pouches and all that.

Is it a long wheel base?
