Exclamation What to look for on a 1999 XJR with 100K? Nikasil problems?

It's already got a hundred thousand miles on it, so is it safe to bet the engine wont be having nikasil problems?

Any thing else to look for? Main concern is if the engine's going to last.

Thanks guys

Well I found this

The seller is going to email me the VIN tonight. If it is ont of the cars considered to be "at risk", are the chances good that it will continue to run well, not that poor quality fuel is gone and it already has 100K on it?

Thanks!

A Nikasil car in the VIN range that is still running well is probably a better bet to not have compression problems than a steel sleeve car. That is why Jaguar used Nikasil to begin with.

Read a little about Nikasil then ask your questions . I have a few pages with information that might help.

Link: Nikasil
Link: Nikasil

Please excuse the poor grammar and spelling I am working to correct it.

My engine (1999) is the original and has 148K on it. Compression is still excellent. Nikasil is an excellent cylinder wall material. I've got plenty of experience with it via Mercury 260Hp outboards so I wasn't scared.

If you have a good Nic motor, the chances are you will wear out the rest of the car before the cylinders wear out.

If it was going to die from "Nikasil poisoning," it would have done so by now. So that just leaves camshaft drive chain tensioners and a few other things to worry about.
